I went to Mexico to celebrate a dear friend’s 50th birthday with a gang of 20, but always when I travel, I have alternate motives. I travel to write. So I hoped to find writing time and inspiration at Villas Mandarinas, but I got so much more. The vibrant, orange-painted walls of Villas Mandarinas cling to Mismaloya’s cliffs, creating eye-pleasing angles against the ocean and sky, which are always the same color, sometimes sizzling blue, sometimes misty white. The infinity pool cascades, bathwater warm, over its curvaceous, blue tile edge, an invitation to just breathe, have another margarita, and wait for dinner. In long, languid mornings, listening to birds by the pool, traipsing about in the first light of day, it is easy to let go of responsibilities, worries, deadlines, and goals, letting them float on those white puffs of cloud into the endless sky. Birds abound because the gardens are so lush. Palms and bright orange honeysuckle, plumeria that seem to have bloomed just for us, loose river rocks guiding you along the concrete walkways, all within a soundscape of syncopated pounding ocean waves against the shiny brown rocks below. Oh, how I lounged! I stretched out on white cushions wherever I wanted them, draped over so many pillows, listening to the ocean, gazing at the tropical flowers that look like wax, the driftwood sculptures, the fresh-cut mums on every tabletop. And I wrote. I wrote like crazy, every day, in a dozen different, perfect, loungey spots all over the property. Surrounded by beauty and inspiration, I worked on my novels and caught up on my blog. I wrote poetry to my wife and to the sea. I travel to write, and I hope to write again at Villas Mandarinas - David G.

Villa Mandarinas is a uniquely private luxury vacation villa rental located just past Mismaloya Beach on Puerto Vallarta´s south shore. The entire Villa Mandarinas Estate offers 12 bedrooms that can comfortably accommodate up to 26 guests. You can choose to rent from 8 bedrooms for small families and groups of up to 16 guests or rent the full 12 bedrooms for larger groups. There are 3 separate pool areas as well as a designated spaces for your wedding or special event for up to 200 people. The villa includes a staff of 8 people: a villa manager, a concierge, a chef, two kitchen assistants, a bartender, a waiter, two housekeepers and a night watchman. The houseman/bartender, villa manager, and concierge are bilingual.
